  • Place green foliage or evergreen branches on the mantelpiece and place the cookies throughout as decorations. Hang some of the cookies off the branches so that they dangle over the mantle piece.

  • Create snowflake decorations using a sheet of white paper. Simply fold the paper in half two times making a square and then cut into a circle or octagon. Then cut small diamond and heart shapes into the paper. Open up the paper to reveal a unique and decorative snowflake.
  • Cut out paper dolls and use them as garland throughout the tree.
  • Create paper stars, hearts, square and snowmen and decorate using sparkling sprinkles. Hang them on the tree. place them in windows and on mirrors for a festive touch.

Homemade Christmas Decorations - Botanical Theme

Fresh fruit and flowers are a fabulous way to decorate the home during the holidays. Not only are they beautiful to look at but they are deliciously fragrant as well.

  • Place dried hydrangeas into the Christmas tree for added color and texture.
  • Place small chunks of fruit in the oven on low heat to dry them out. Use apricot, apple and orange slices. As soon as they are removed from the oven sprinkle them with sugar. Once they have cooled glue some twine onto each piece and hang them from the tree.
  • Fill vases with fresh or dried flower bouquets and place on the mantel piece or anywhere else for a natural and festive holiday touch.
  • Fill a bowl with fresh lemons, limes or oranges and use as a centerpiece in the dining room or living room. Add cranberries to the fruit bowls for additional color.
  • A month or so before the start of the Christmas holidays plant some tulip bulbs in a small potted plant and watch as they bloom over the holidays. Use the plants as a centerpiece anywhere in the home.
